نقش يزيد بن معاوية بن حزن بن المحجل

Unrecorded

  1. ترحم الله على يزيد بن
  2. معوية (معاوية) بن حزن
  3. بن المحجل آمين

May God have mercy on Yazīd ibn Muʿāwiyah ibn Ḥazn ibn al-Muḥajjal. Āmīn.

A three-line prayer for mercy for Yazīd ibn Muʿāwiyah ibn Ḥazn ibn al-Muḥajjal, closed with āmīn. It uses the early formula taraḥḥama Allāh ʿalā, “may God have mercy on”, and names Yazīd in the third person; the writer does not give his own name. The name Muʿāwiyah is written without its long alif, معوية, as often in early texts. The same rock face carries further writing, in a larger hand above this text and in other lines below it, which is not part of the reading given here.
