In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful. I, Ismāʿīl, son of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Khālid, have devoted my religion purely to the Inheritor, the Protector.

Six lines at Shiʿb ʿĀfiyah in Wādī Khara, opening with the full basmalah: “In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful. I, Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Khālid, have devoted my religion purely to the Inheritor, the Protector.” Akhlaṣtu dīnī takes up the Qurʾānic phrase of sincere worship, “Say: God I worship, devoting my religion purely to Him” (mukhliṣan lahu dīnī, Q 39:14).
