We are the sons of Waḥwaḥ ibn ʿĀmir al- Anṣārī. We hold inviolable this land of ours, except by its right.
On a dark, split rock in the al-Madīnah region, the sons of Waḥwaḥ ibn ʿĀmir al-Anṣārī carved a six-line declaration in the first person plural: نحرم أرضنا هذه إلا بحقها, “we hold this land of ours inviolable, except by its right”. The writers do not name themselves one by one. They give only their father and his nisba, al-Anṣārī, which marks the family as belonging to the Anṣār of Madīnah.
