Inscription of Ibn al-ʿĀṣ

نقش ابن العاص

Qāʿ al-Muʿtadil, Darb al-Ḥajj

  1. ]بالله آمن[
  2. ] ... بن العاص[
  3. وصحبته (وصحابته) من أهل قنسرين
  4. وكتب ثمن (ثمان) وسبعين

[Believes] in God ...] ibn al-ʿĀṣ and his companions, from the people of Qinnasrīn, and it was written [in the year] seventy-eight.

The first two lines are badly eroded; the brackets mark reconstructed readings the editor considers most likely rather than certain text. The mention of Qinnasrīn (in northern Syria) ties this otherwise anonymous group of companions to a specific garrison region. Found on the same Syrian pilgrim route (Darb al-Ḥajj al-Shāmī) as the Zuhayr inscriptions (nos. 1–2 in this catalog).
