I, al- Mughīrah ibn ʿUmar, ask God for Paradise as a lodging, the angels as an escort, the Prophet as a companion, and the believers as companions. Āmīn, Lord of the Worlds. And it was written for the year two and ninety.
Previously unpublished in the epigraphic literature until documented by ʿAbdallāh Muṣliḥ al-Thumālī in 2019, in Wādī Malkān south of Mecca, an area rich in early Islamic inscriptions. The phrasing (Paradise as a lodging, angels as an escort) echoes Qurʾanic and hadith language found in several other inscriptions of this corpus. The scribe misspells "al-malāʾikah" (angels) as "al-maʾlikah," transposing the hamzah and lām, and the book's author notes the lettering is unusually well-executed, with even spacing between words and lines and consistently straight vertical strokes.
