  4. إسحق (إسحاق) بن ابرهيم (إبراهيم)

O you who believe, be patient, outdo [others] in patience, stand firm, and fear God, that you may succeed. And [this] was written by Isḥāq ibn Ibrāhīm.

On a rock in Wādī al-ʿUsaylah, just below the second inscription of Umayyah ibn ʿAbd al-Malik (QMI-INS-047), Isḥāq ibn Ibrāhīm carved the last verse of Sūrat Āl ʿImrān in four lines and signed it with his name. Wādī al-ʿUsaylah is a valley about 6 km long on the north-eastern side of Makkah, bordering the Ḥaram toward al-Jiʿrānah. It was a passage for travellers and pilgrim caravans arriving from Iraq, and more than sixty early inscriptions are known on its rocks, among them the dated Qurʾānic texts of ʿUthmān ibn Wahrān of 80 AH and of Umayyah of 98 AH (QMI-INS-025, QMI-INS-046).
