In the name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate. O God, forgive ʿAbd- allāh ibn Abī Saʿīd ibn Saʿd al-Anṣārī, and he wrote [this] in the year one hundred.

The scribe records his own given name, his father's kunyah, and his grandfather's name before stating his tribal affiliation (al-Anṣārī, "of the Helpers," the Medinan tribes who supported the Prophet) — the book's author notes that the father's kunyah appears to be derived from the grandfather's actual name, a naming pattern worth flagging for readers tracing early Anṣārī genealogies.
