O God, grant well-being to Rabāḥ ibn Ḥafṣ ibn ʿĀṣim ibn ʿUmar al-Fārūq, in this world and the next, on the day he dies and the day he is raised alive, and grant him well-being in his religion, in his body, and in his affairs, and forgive him his sin, what came before and what came after. Āmīn, Lord of the Worlds. May God have mercy on whoever says āmīn. And it was written in the year one hundred.
A much longer, later reprise of Rabāḥ ibn Ḥafṣ's first inscription (no. 43, dated 96 AH), naming ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb explicitly by his epithet al-Fārūq ("the one who distinguishes truth from falsehood"). The book's author corrects three earlier readings by Dr. Muḥammad al-Thunayyān, who had read line 1 as ending in "salīm" rather than the name continuing into line 2 as "ibn Ḥafṣ," and had divided a word across lines 2–3 differently. No plate of this second inscription is reproduced in the source text.
