O God, forgive ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn al-Ḥārith ibn al- Ḥakam what has gone before of his sins and what has come after, and bring together him and his descendants in an abode of Your mercy, and set him (?) at the Basin of Muḥammad …
A prayer cut on a concave sandstone block built into the west wall of a barrel-vaulted room at Khirbat Nitil, about 14 km south-east of Mādabā, in the Balqāʾ. Alois Musil found it on 12 July 1896 and published it in 1908 with a squeeze and the photograph shown here. The stone is well preserved except for its lower left corner, where the ends of lines 7 and 8 have broken away. The text asks forgiveness for ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn al-Ḥārith ibn al-Ḥakam “for what has gone before of his sins and what has come after”, the wording of Q 48:2 used in other texts of the catalog from 64 to 110 AH (QMI-INS-010, QMI-INS-040, QMI-INS-055ag).
