O God, forgive Ḥafṣ ibn ʿUmar and all the people of Taymāʾ. And [this] was written in Ramaḍān of the year one hundred and eight.
A prayer for forgiveness dated Ramaḍān 108 AH (January 727 CE), in the caliphate of Hishām ibn ʿAbd al-Malik — two months after the inscription of al-Haytham ibn Ziyād (no. 55d). Its striking feature is the widening of the prayer: after asking forgiveness for Ḥafṣ ibn ʿUmar, the writer extends it to “all the people of Taymāʾ”, a communal prayer for a whole town that is rare among the inscriptions of this catalog. It joins the other inscription from Taymāʾ in the catalog (no. 50, 98 AH). Ḥafṣ ibn ʿUmar has not been identified. The name invites comparison with ʿĀṣim ibn ʿUmar ibn Ḥafṣ (no. 55, 100 AH), since brothers were often named after their grandfather; but this remains a possibility only, as both names were common. The inscription was discovered by Bandar al-Ghayth.
