Half of a bronze weight, found in 1990 in the excavations of the Institute of Archaeology of the Hebrew University at Baysān. It is a disc of highly leaded copper alloy, 5 cm across and 1.3 cm thick, of the type used for weights under Byzantine rule; the surviving half weighs 83.78 g. Its Arabic legend is set in two fields: a margin between two raised circles, carrying the basmalah and the profession of faith, and a central field naming the official who ordered the weight. The lower half, which probably carried the name of the maker and perhaps the date, the place of manufacture and the weight, is lost.
