I am ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ḥarmalah al-Aslamī. I ask God for Paradise as a final abode, His good pleasure as a reward, and the believers as companions. Amen, Lord of the worlds.
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān asks God for three things, each closing on the same rhyme: Paradise “as a final abode” (maʾāban), His good pleasure “as a reward” (thawāban), and the believers “as companions” (aṣḥāban). The request for Paradise with a named reward recalls the prayer of al-Walīd ibn Maʿbad of 80 AH, “Paradise as a lodging and the angels as an escort” (QMI-INS-020).
