I am ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn Jaʿfar ibn ʿAbdallāh ibn al-Ḥakam al-Anṣārī. God suffices me, and He is the best guardian.

On a rock face in the Bajda mountains of the Ḥismā, among other early texts, a man gave his name with three generations of his descent: “I am ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn Jaʿfar ibn ʿAbdallāh ibn al-Ḥakam al-Anṣārī”. He closed with the Qurʾānic words ḥasbiya Allāhu wa-niʿma al-wakīl, “God suffices me, and He is the best guardian” (compare Q 3:173). The name ibn is divided between the first and second lines.
