ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān bore witness that God is the Truth; there is no god but He, the Ever-Living, the Self-Subsisting. And he wrote [this] in al-Muḥarram of the year seven and twenty and one hundred. May God curse whoever erases this writing or alters it. Āmīn.

A testimony of faith by ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, dated al-Muḥarram 127 AH (October–November 744 CE), from al-Jahwa in the highlands of northern ʿAsīr. He bears witness “that God is the Truth” (anna Allāha ḥaqq) and adds the words of the Throne Verse, “there is no god but He, the Ever-Living, the Self-Subsisting” (Q 2:255). The same epithets close the dated text of ʿĀṣim ibn ʿUmar ibn Ḥafṣ of 100 AH (QMI-INS-055). The year falls in the last years of Umayyad rule, under Marwān ibn Muḥammad.
