May God have mercy on al-Rammāḥ ibn al-Ṣalt. And [this] was written in the year ten and one hundred.
The second prayer for mercy of al-Rammāḥ ibn al-Ṣalt, dated by year alone, 110 AH (728–729 CE), one year after his first (no. 55y, 109 AH) and in nearly the same words; this time he leaves out the “āmīn”. It was written in the same year as the prayer of al-Mufaḍḍal ibn al-Ṣalt (no. 55aa), who may have been his brother: the two men share their father’s name, their region and their opening formula, “tarraḥḥama Allāh ʿalā”. This remains a possibility only. The number is written “ʿashrah” with a final tāʾ marbūṭah, where al-Mufaḍḍal’s inscription has “ʿashr”. The letters are cut in a light, even line on a dark patinated panel, and below the text is a row of camels drawn in the same pecked technique — whether by the same hand cannot be told from the photograph.
