O God, hasten for the neighbours of Your Messenger’s grave, the people of Ṭaybah, relief from what they have come to at evening and at morning of hardship. The year two and fifty and one hundred.

On a dark stone, a writer who does not give his name asked God to hasten relief for a whole city: “O God, hasten for the neighbours of Your Messenger’s grave, the people of Ṭaybah, relief from the hardship in which they spend their evenings and their mornings”. He dated the prayer to the year 152 AH (769 CE). Ṭaybah is a name of al-Madīnah, and the people of the city are described not by their tribe or their city’s name alone but by their place beside the Prophet’s grave. Unlike most prayers in the catalog, which are for the writer or for named persons, this one is for a whole community, and it names the grave of the Prophet.
